STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
Utah has a rich heritage and a bright future. Our families are the basic units of society, and their success determines the success of our communities. For this reason, our mission is to reduce economic stress, create safe neighborhoods, and provide quality educational and community resources. We take our stewardship over the natural world seriously. We strive to make our communities welcoming and safe for all of Utah’s people without regard for when they first came to our great state. We recognize the hand of Divinity in the US Constitution, and we seek to ensure that the rights and freedoms it provides are available to everyone.
Our vision: Encourage more Latter-day Saints to participate and feel welcome in the Democratic Party and vote for Democratic candidates.

- TO THE PEOPLE OF OGDEN: the Democratic Party is with you. We are fighting against your city being split into four Senate Districts so that three Senators – WHO LIVE WITHIN SEVEN MILES OF EACH OTHER – can keep their seats.
- TOOELE: we are with you! Democrats know that YOU DESERVE FAIR REPRESENTATION, and not to have your community VIOLENTLY FRACTURED so the Republicans can have safe seats.
- SUMMIT COUNTY RESIDENTS: you have fought for over ten years to be represented on Capitol Hill, but EVERY SINGLE MAP (CONGRESSIONAL, SENATE, AND STATE HOUSE) SPLINTERS YOUR COMMUNITY! WE ARE FIGHTING FOR YOU AND YOUR RIGHT TO A VOICE!
- SOUTHERN AND RURAL UTAH: We toured your communities and your interests are clear – YOU DESERVE YOUR OWN CONGRESSMAN! You have unique interests that are different from those of Salt Lake and Utah County. You are a community and you HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HEARD!
- PRICE AND CARBON COUNTY: the Republicans are splitting your community in two State House districts, and THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF UTAH STANDS WITH YOU IN OPPOSITION THAT MAP!
Sign this letter, make a contribution, attend the October 3, 2011 Rally, and get involved.
GERRYMANDERING IS HAPPENING NOW. It is URGENT you act IMMEDIATELY. Join the fight today!
2011 Utah Dems Iron County Play Date
Our FIRST EVER (but not last) Bus Trip into one of Utah’s 29 magnificent counties leaves Democratic Party Chair, House and Senate Members, staff and many other supportive Democrats exhausted and energized – yes they can be both.
Party Chairman Jim Dabakis and House Minority Leader David Litvack were joined by Democratic Representatives Jennifer Seelig, Patrice Arent, Joel Briscoe, Rebecca Chavez-Houck, Brian Doughty, Lynn Hemingway, Brian King, Marie Poulson, as well as Senator Karen Morgan, County Chairs from Salt Lake, Kane, Summit, Utah and Washington counties, the Veterans and Progressive Caucus Chairs as well as many other Democrats from around the state on Friday, August 5, 2011 as they hopped on a bus for Cedar City to support Iron County Democrats.
We enjoyed the Cedar City Family Festival, attended “The Music Man” at the Shakespearean Festival’s 50th Anniversary and then a tasty meal at Rusty’s Steakhouse in one of Utah’s most beautiful canyons. The Iron County Democratic Chair, Doug Hawks and over 100 Dems from the Southland welcomed us to Southern Utah as we rev up and prepare for municipal elections in 2011 and to re-elect President Barack Obama in 2012. This is the beginning of “Team Democrat,” as our party grows across the state.
New energy is buzzing statewide as Chairman Dabakis travels from county to county, sharing his energy and encouraging Democrats to get involved wherever he lands. Democrats are ready to win, and as we gathered in Cedar City strategies on just how to do that in all 29 counties were born.
We would like to thank Iron County Democrats for hosting this most successful bus trip to Iron County! We look forward to visiting other Utah counties to share this energy and get them fired up to recruit Democratic candidates to win elections in their counties.
If you missed the fun, your next chance to join us is on the Southern Utah Red Rock Tour, Aug. 22-25. Details for that can be found at http://redrocktour.utahdemocrats.org/ - this will be your chance to meet some of the organizers that are going to help Democrats win statewide offices!
