Dave Hollins: I’m a Utah Dem
My name is Dave Hollins, and I’m a Utah Democrat. I’m a Utah Dem, because everyone should have a fighting chance, and Utah Democrats are concerned for everyone, not just the rich.
I’ve lived here in Utah for more than 25 years. I am married to the great Sandra Hollins, and we have been blessed to raise our two daughters here. I’ve tried to be an example for my daughters of the importance of civic engagement. It’s important to give back to your community, and when you turn 18, your first step to giving back is by registering to vote. Then, get involved on the local level. Take time to get to know your neighbors. You can’t help your community if you’re not involved.
I started my involvement in my community council, volunteering with the AIDS Coalition of Utah, and being part of the Rose Park Lions’ Club. I never thought I’d be involved in politics, but volunteering in my community helped me understand that government has the potential to impact the issues I was already volunteering for. Whether it’s funding to provide healthcare to our most vulnerable or to fight the public health battles of our day, government impacts our daily lives. And as I’ve observed politics in Utah, I’ve realized Republicans don’t look at the needs of the individual. Democrats care about people, no matter who you are, where you’re from, or how old you are.
I have the great privilege to be married to one of our Utah Democratic state representatives, but she and her colleagues need more support in the state legislature to get things done. It’s time for each of us to rally our family, our friends, our neighbors to support Utah Democrats – by donating, volunteering, and VOTING – so we can actually get things done at the state capitol.
