TJ was born and raised in Salt Lake County. His interest in politics began while he was attending Cottonwood High School, where he became Vice President of the local Young Democrats chapter and landed an internship with Pete Ashdown’s campaign for United States Senate in 2006. He hasn’t looked back.
In the years since then, TJ has managed state legislative and municipal campaigns across Utah, including Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams’s first campaign in 2012, and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker’s reelection campaign in 2011. TJ also served on the executive Boards of the Young Democrats of Utah (YDU) and College Democrats of Utah for nine years, including serving as President of YDU from 2013 – 2015.
As Political Director for the Utah Democratic Party, TJ oversees candidate recruitment and UDP’s coordinated campaign, manages the statewide voter database, and works with UDP’s many caucuses, county parties, and committees. Outside of politics, he is also an Eagle Scout, and spends much of his free time casually studying astronomy and playing video games and board games with friends. TJ holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Utah.
