F. Jay Seegmiller

Candidate for State Party Vice Chair

Bio

Jay Seegmiller is a Utah native with roots dating back before statehood. He and his wife of over 40 years, have four children and nine grandchildren with two more on the way.

Jay has been active in the Democratic Party since 1987. Jay ran for the Utah State House in 2008, and beat the sitting Speaker of the House. Jay is the only Democrat to the hold District 49 seat in the last 40 years.

In 2012, Jay won the Democratic nomination for Congress in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, eventually losing to Chris Stewart in the general election. He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman the year he graduated from South High School and while attending the University of Utah.

In 1987, Jay began working for Amtrak as a Conductor. At Amtrak, Jay was twice recognized with Amtrak’s prestigious “President’s Service and Safety Award”, in 2000 & 2006.

Jay also served on the Sandy City Transportation Committee for 8 years. He currently serves as the Utah State Legislative Director for the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, & Transportation Union- Transportation Division. For most of his adult life, Jay has been fighting for pay equality, and against discrimination of all types.
