Filing for Party Office

Normally, our party elects chairs and vice chairs at State Conventions during odd years. Because there was a special election for chair and vice chair late last year, this year we are required to have the entire delegate body vote to have them finish their term at this year’s convention.

Duties of the Chair:

-To carry out the programs and policies of the State Conventions, the State Central Committee, and the State Executive Committee.
-To possess all powers of the Utah State Democratic Party between meetings, as provided herein and by the Bylaws, except for those delegated to the State Convention, State Central Committee, the State Executive Committee, or other State Executive Officers.
-To determine the agenda and preside over all meetings of the State Executive Committee, State Central Committee, and State Convention, if not a candidate.
-To appoint Sergeants-at-Arms and Parliamentarians for Conventions and other meetings when appropriate.
-To appoint, subject to the approval of the State Executive Committee, a State Executive Director and other necessary office personnel to carry out the programs of the Utah State Democratic Party and to pay the necessary salaries.
-To appoint the membership of Select Committees assigned to them, with the advice and consent of the State Executive Committee.
-To appoint the membership of Standing Committees, and the Select Committees assigned to them, with the advice and consent of the State Central Committee.
-To serve as a member of the Democratic National Committee.
-To serve as a member of the Association of State Democratic Chairs.
-To serve as an ex officio member of all committees as described herein, by the Bylaws, or approved by the State Central Committee.
-To select, with the approval of the State Executive Committee, a person or persons to act as legal counsel for the Utah State Democratic Party, and to work in conjunction with such counsel on behalf of the Utah State Democratic Party.

Duties of the Vice Chair:

-To assist in the performance of duties of the State Chair.
-To preside in the absence of the State Chair over meetings of the State Executive Committee, State Central Committee, and State Convention, if not a candidate​.
-To serve as an ex officio member of all committees as described in the Party Constitution, by the Bylaws, or approved by the State Central Committee​.
