REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR SALT LAKE COUNTY CLERK EXPOSED AS EXTREMIST ELECTION DENIER
SALT LAKE CITY, September 29, 2022 — Today, the Salt Lake Tribune published a report detailing extremist online comments from Goud Maragani, the Republican candidate for Salt Lake County Clerk. In these comments, Maragani fraudulently claimed that the 2020 election was stolen, called Democrats “commies” and “marxists,” said that January 6th rioters (who attacked our democracy and killed police officers) should be freed, and more.
“These online comments reveal who Goud Maragani truly is: an extremist election-denier. Anyone who gets on social media and pushes baseless conspiracy theories about fraud in the 2020 election and then turns around and lies about his beliefs to voters is not someone who can be trusted to run Salt Lake County’s elections freely and fairly,” said Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis.
The stakes in this race have never been higher: voters have a choice between Goud Maragani, an extremist who will put our freedom to vote at risk, and Lannie Chapman, a common sense public servant who will protect vote-by-mail and ensure that every eligible voter can easily and safely cast their ballot. The people of Salt Lake County must come together to reject the dangerous extremism of Goud Maragani and elect Lannie Chapman to be their next County Clerk.
