REPUBLICANS MOVE FORWARD CRUEL AND EXTREME BILL TO RESTRICT ABORTIONS EVEN FURTHER
SALT LAKE CITY, February 15, 2023 — Today, every Republican on the House Judiciary Committee voted to pass out HB 467, which would tighten the already draconian abortion restrictions the Republican supermajority is determined to impose on Utahns.
Not only have Republicans in the legislature paved the way to see the injunction blocking their abortion trigger law removed, they’re now moving forward with a bill which would make it even harder for women to access reproductive care. It would force abortion care providers across the state to close by 2024, and caps the exceptions for rape and incest at 18 weeks for everyone over the age of 12.
“Republican extremists in the legislature are now taking their efforts to force themselves into womens’ reproductive decisions a step further, trying to shutter abortion clinics and severely limit the ability of survivors of rape or incest as young as 13 to access abortion services,” said Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis. “They may deny it, but it is painfully obvious that this is just the next step in Republicans’ plot to ban abortion without exception in the state of Utah. This blatant government overreach must be stopped.”
Before the bill is heard on the House floor, we implore all Utahns who do not want to see the legislature implement further abortion restrictions to contact their Representative and demand that they vote NO on H.B. 467: Abortion Changes.
