Charles first became politically active when he ran for Utah Attorney General in 2014, where he campaigned for ethics reforms in the face of numerous scandals that had emerged from the Utah Attorney General’s Office. He and his family have remained actively involved ever since, and Charles was elected National Committeeman in the Spring of 2016.
Charles is an experienced trial lawyer and civil litigator who has been practicing law since 2001. Charles graduated from Davidson College cum laude with a double major in mathematics and political science in 1998. He attended the University of Virginia School of Law where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review. Over the course of his career, he has practiced at large, international law firms in Washington, DC, served as a Utah Assistant Attorney General, and started his own firm. Charles has worked on complex, multi-billion dollar mergers, bet-the-company patent litigation, trademark litigation, eminent domain, and a variety of commercial disputes. Charles serves on the Utah State Bar’s Third District Pro Bono Committee. He spearheads the Committee’s Debt Collection Volunteer Attorney Program, which has served hundreds of pro bono clients since its inception. Charles is also a Bar Examiner, mentors young attorneys, and is a regular speaker at local and national conferences in his fields of expertise.
When he is not out knocking on doors for candidates with his family, Charles volunteers his time on the boards of the IJ & Jeanne Wagner Jewish Community Center and Open Legal Services. He loves to coach his kids’ sports teams, and does his best to keep up with his young daughter and son, who do their best to keep him on his toes.
