#RESIGNCLINE: UTAH DEMOCRATS CALL FOR HATEFUL
SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER’S RESIGNATION

SALT LAKE CITY, August 25th 2021 — This week, Utahns were hit with a fresh round of deja vu, after embattled Utah State School Board member Natalie Cline once again doubled down on her hateful rhetoric. Just seven months ago, Cline (Bluffdale) insinuated that a voluntary “Pride Not Prejudice” training by the Utah Pride Center was an attempt to indoctrinate children. Cline has now doubled down on her unhealthy and bizarre obsession with politicizing and damaging the education of LGBTQ+ students, by demanding that her far-right followers make calls to stop students at a Layton High seminary from welcoming their LGBTQ+ classmates.

In response, the Utah Democratic Party is calling for her immediate and voluntary resignation from office, because her extremist agenda and targeting of students creates an unsafe environment for our kids.

“Natalie Cline is on a one-woman crusade, out of step with Utah values, as well as those of her own district.” said Utah Democratic Party Chair Jeff Merchant. “While Layton High students tried to create a welcoming space for all of their neighbors, Ms. Cline is doing the opposite. It is time for Utah parents to start asking which example to follow.”

By targeting students at an LDS seminary, far outside her purview as a school board member, Natalie Cline has once again shown her lack of qualification for her post. Utah Democrats believe that she should resign, allowing an education professional who truly cares for our children and their education to replace her.

The Utah Democratic Party is the face and voice of Democrats in the State of Utah. We believe that Utahns deserve strong, competent leadership that puts the people and democracy first.
