Utah Democrats Are Fighting For Freedom With Joy
August 22, 2024, Chicago - Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis released the following statement today:
“Vice-President Kamala Harris’ Convention Address showed that she is poised to usher our country into a new era: one where Americans of all parties put aside our differences and defend Freedom, joyously looking ahead to the future we will achieve for our children and grandchildren.
Our joy does not blind us to the danger our country faces. Donald Trump, JD Vance, and their MAGA acolytes want to take us back to a time when most Americans did not have Freedom. They want the government in your doctor’s office, controlling what you do with your body. They want the government in our schools, telling you what books your children are allowed to read. They want the government to invade the voting booth, deciding who gets a say in how our country is run. They want the government doing everything except its job: protecting our Freedom and ensuring our country’s future. Nowhere is this truer than Utah, where abortion has been restricted, the government polices bathrooms, and unconstitutional gerrymandering disenfranchises voters.
Nevertheless, we have joy because we know that Donald Trump does not represent most Americans. Freedom is the core value of our country, and millions of Americans will vote to protect it this year. In Utah, we will take our message of joy to the voters, and show crooked politicians that Utahns do not want their Freedom taken away. From Cache Valley to St. George, Utah Democrats are ready to work harder than ever before to elect pro-freedom leaders at the federal, state, and local level. This is the year we reclaim our Freedom, and this is the year we make it clear that we refuse to go back.”
