Utah Democratic Party Condemns Election Denial, Threats
October 29, 2024, Salt Lake City - Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis and Vice-Chair Oscar Mata released the following joint statement today:
“We are appalled by the news that Republican County Clerk Aaron Davidson’s false claims of fraud in the 2024 Republican Primary Election led to death threats against Governor Spencer Cox and Lieutenant Governor Diedre Henderson. Gubernatorial Candidate and Republican Lawmaker Phil Lyman’s despicable promotion of Davidson’s false claims, as well as his refusal to condemn threats made against public officials, is reprehensible.
The Utah Democratic Party remains committed to opposing the spread of election disinformation as well as threats of political violence. The fact that extremists are threatening public officials proves MAGA Republican politicians have gone too far in undermining trust in our elections. Their self-serving election conspiracy theories are dangerous to our democracy. The Utah Democratic Party demands that Phil Lyman and Aaron Davidson condemn the threats made against Utah’s Governor and Lieutenant Governor.”
